Butterflies

I admit that I have been one of those people that used to go about love as though it were shopping; as though the perfect human being, just like the perfect pair of shoes, was out there just waiting to be found, for an infinite future of companionship.

In the olden days, people tended to settle for the person they were going out with at the time when they were ready to commit.  People got to really know each other in a real and mature way.

In 2016, however, we fear making the wrong choice more than we fear not making any choice at all; and with so many potential mates to choose from (let´s say Tinders, Happns and so on) people inevitably keep on searching for an unreachable perfection.

But perfection is not love. What is true instead is that getting to know someone, caring for him/her and being cared for, can become perfection, can become love despite none of us being perfect.

That two strangers are "right for each other" is a fantasy nowadays, but it can turn into reality if you are able to struggle with your differences so that life is better for both of you, not basing your relationship on fantasies. And super important: there is no other person in the world that will define you and make you complete, if you are looking for completeness, look in the mirror.

Love might not be the paradise you supposed it would be, but there is always a false idealization and sentimentality around the concept of romantic attachment that should not hinder real attraction to a partner. Therefore, please lead yourself to a worthwhile life and head for hills if you ever find a charming prince or a barbie hipster... they are just not real.

Thus, love may not be all that it's cracked up to be. So if you ever get feelings of love, attraction, tenderness and respect with someone, or just butterflies fluttering your stomach: you had better damned well go for it. After all, you do not get butterflies with everyone, do you :)?

It's the butterflies in our bellies, and the lightening in your eyes, that tells me this all makes so much f*** sense.
